WILLEMSTAD - Four men who were illegally dumping waste at Dam Pretu were caught red-handed by PAR Member of Parliament Ana-Maria Pauletta and her brother. The parliamentarian confronted the men and demanded that they clean up the dumped garbage. She recorded the incident and shared it on her Facebook page.
"I went to Dam Pretu last Sunday to see for myself the situation regarding the illegal dumping of waste. While I was there, I saw a pickup truck arrive with four individuals who came to dump garbage, right in nature," writes a outraged Pauletta, alongside a video she shared.
In the video, a man whose face is blurred can be seen. Pauletta addresses the people in Papiamento. One person responds, also in Papiamento: "We were sent here. We paid someone to dump the garbage." When the Member of Parliament indicated that dumping garbage is not allowed, the man switched to Dutch, asking, "Since when?" To which Pauletta responded almost irritatedly, "Always. Who sent you?" She received no answer.
At the end of her Facebook post, Pauletta writes: "After a fairly intense conversation, these individuals cleaned up their mess and left. I hope they have learned a lesson and feel ashamed. People, our nature is not a place to dump garbage. Let's keep our country clean."
It is known that Pauletta herself regularly goes into the bush to clean up garbage dumped by others. She is a member of the group 'Curaçao must be cleaner' led by the Kunukuman. This group of 36 members cleans up litter somewhere on Curaçao every Sunday.
